What do you know.

First LJ entry of the year. La-de-fucking-da.

Well. I hereby declare that you will probably not be seeing much of me this year.

Why? Well, have any of you ever heard of a PhD? It's this concept that some (excuse me, [livejournal.com profile] alleycat04 and anyone else that may be offended, I have to use this word)...where was I? Oh yes. That some CUNT invented to foist upon unsuspecting morons (eg. moi), to rob said unsuspecting morons of any chance of a life outside their little cage. In my case, a cage consisting of a 3rd floor lab in the Micro building, which contains a desk upon which there are piles and piles of unfinished experiments and other assorted crapola that will no doubt take me forever to decipher/finish/understand/give a flying fuck about.

Therefore, I bid you all farewell. Wish me good luck. Or at least smoke one in my memory. You may see me behind the stacks of paper with a cigarette lighter and a can of deodorant. And an insane, evil grin.

OK, one last gasp...

So there I am in a shit. What's new?

I'm on the 2nd floor of the Micro building, walking towards the incubator to get some cultures out. All of a sudden I hear a really horrible male voice singing, "Come on baby, do the locomotion!"

I do a double take. I hear the refrain being sung again. I walk towards the source of the unconvincing Minogue impersonation...

There, in the PCR room, at the UV hood, singing his little heart out, is the European bloke from one of the HIV labs. He sees me through the window. I look at him. He looks completely and utterly mortified that I caught him singing that, at the top of his lungs. I laugh. At him. Yes, I can be cruel too.

To cover himself, I presume, he starts humming it instead...

Oh boy. My day has suddenly turned brighter. It's amazing how catching someone doing something really dumb can make everything seem that much better...

Except, of course, now that infernal song is in my head.
