Fucktard of the Day
Dec. 16th, 2006 10:50 pmSome people have way too much time on their hands.
And he's a do-gooder. Wanker.
Back to analysing real-time PCR data which appears to have bent me over and sodomised me hard.

Fictional characters I'd do.

Six random facts.
1) I have a slight hangover.
2) Even though I'm not overly hairy (shut up
gerbilsage), I have hairy toes. I mean, huh? (Shut up,
cows_might_fly and
woo_hoo.)
3) I just ate a Lindt ball, and it was awesome.
4) Someone in my lab just told me that the PCR primers she's using are "sluttier than my mum on heat." Very weirded out by that.
5) I'm giving my oration on the 19th of January.
6) At the moment I'm a big ball of stress. For obvious reasons.
Yes. I'm not sure how many of those qualify as "facts." Meh.

This is my happy face.
Nov. 17th, 2006 08:06 pmYou know you're in trouble when you're listening to Fear Factory and you're still having trouble staying awake, let alone focussed.
Oh god, when will this data analysis/experimentation ever end?
Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm whingeing again. Bite me, the lot a' youse. You try editing and BLASTing 92 sequences (many of which are shite) and see how cheerful you stay. And this is only the beginning. Just like whats-er-name sang....
I'll see you all sometime next frigging year, at this rate.

Well. The Departmental Inquisition wasn't so bad.
Interesting.
Definitely interesting.
But not so bad.
I may have a lot to think about over the next week. And I may even start.....(drum roll please) START WRITING MY LIT REVIEW!
Change is evil. Shayne no like change. Change make Shayne a mad boy.....
(Apologies for the boring PhD posts. Actually, no. No apologies. It's my freakin' LJ....by the way,
penelope_jane, your news really sucks hairy dogs' balls.)

I'm off at 2 pm to face the Departmental Inquisition.
Yep. It's that meeting - that "very informal meeting; just bring your coffee cup and yourself...oh yes and-any-other-paper-you-may-have-pertaining-to-your-thesis-such-as-a-thesis-outline-and-timeline-and-plan-of-action-and-any-results-and-how-you-plan-to-get-your-sorry-arse-out-of-here-in-time....but really, it's very informal. Don't worry too much about it."
Yeeeeeeah.
Actually, I'm not too worried about it. I'm just pissed off that it's taking time out of my precious day TO GET RESULTS AND THUS GET CLOSER TO LEAVING THIS PLACE!
Grmp.
I'll be in the angry corner.

Sep. 13th, 2006 09:46 amFeeling quite melancholy today. Probably because I've been singing the same song over and over for the last few days (see above...or below, depending on layout...)
Oh, and I'm teaching today. That must be the reason.
...
Oh and re:
misfratz's BMI quiz and LJ Drama that has ensued from this - I'm Switzerland.
I haven't actually done the test yet because I've been too busy. I probably should do it...
OK, off to work.

LJ Interests Collage
Sep. 9th, 2006 11:08 pm( My Interests Collage! )
Has anyone noticed that I seem to have an obsession with guitars....?
That being said, this is not a true reflection of the diversity of my interests. I mean, where do you find a picture for "lampooning dumb rednecks" or "I hate glad wrap" ??

Aug. 22nd, 2006 09:29 amI am going to be productive today.
I'm going to get some work done.
I am determined that by the end of the day I will have done enough that I can look back and say, "Yes. That was a fruitful and productive day. I did so much work that I am le tired and I will now have a guilt-free victory sleep. (ZEN FIRE ZE MISSILES!)"
...
Doing work now.
...
Yes, I certainly am.

Williamsia muralis, I wish nothing upon you but the worst of times. I hope your bacterial lineage goes the way of the dodo.
No, I don't expect anyone to understand or care....
EDIT Oh yeah, and the same goes for all the bacterial strains I'm trying to characterise. You wanna grow so slowly that I can't actually work with you? Fine!!! It's the autoclave for you, you little motherfuckers. See how you like that.

Aug. 5th, 2006 06:21 pmWell, one experiment down, fifty-million to go.
Not really, I'm full of hyperbole.
Setting up big experiments is a pain in the arse - especially if you're not sure what's going to happen. If this sounds strange, trust me when I say that the best experiments are those that you're fairly sure will give you a certain result. "But where's the fun in that??" you ask. And I answer: "If the results you get are incomprehensible and or/screwed, that ain't much fun either." Anyway, I now have 21 happy little soil microcosms sitting at 25 degrees and they'd better give me some joy, damn it!
I tried doing this quiz that
insomnius posted again for old times' sake. I got bored halfway through and gave up. So instead I'm checking my email for the fifty-millionth time...again with the hyperbole.
Back to work. Time waits for no one. Under 5 months before I have to get the hell out of this lab...
