Williamsia muralis, I wish nothing upon you but the worst of times. I hope your bacterial lineage goes the way of the dodo.

No, I don't expect anyone to understand or care....

EDIT Oh yeah, and the same goes for all the bacterial strains I'm trying to characterise. You wanna grow so slowly that I can't actually work with you? Fine!!! It's the autoclave for you, you little motherfuckers. See how you like that.

Nothing wrong with cursing inanimate objects.

In my personal opinion the Taravale Marl should have been completely eroded soon after the Devonian when it was deposited because it's a complete waste of space. The end.

Penny, they're not inanimate...well, even though they're slow as shit. Actually...yes, bugger it, they may as well be inanimate.

As to the Taravale Marl...I have no idea what you're on about. As I'm sure you have no idea what I'm on about.

Whoops! I do need to go back to uni. Bacteria are living things!! Hehehe.

As for the not understanding about Taravale Marl, that was the point. And I cursed the bacteria for you...

Yeah, I figured that that was what you were doing. I just thought I'd draw the point out even further...

Heh heh. Bacteria aren't rocks Penny. remember that. They're actually interesting.

...

OK, that was mean.

Of course bacteria are interesting. They make stromatolites.

And some of them can utilise weird toxic compounds as electron donors/acceptors. Like mercury and arsenic. Yeah - HEY! WAIT! I'M SUPPOSED TO HATE THEM NOW! DAMN YOU FOR MAKING ME PRAISE THEM!!!!

Archaebacteria rock socks. I like the ones that live in radioactive pools and the extreme halophiles.

There's a lab here that work on the phages (viruses) that infect halophiles. Pretty cool research.

That is cool. No matter what you are, something out there has evolved to attack you.

Thought for the day: if it weren't for cyanobacteria excreting oxygen, the oceans would never have rusted and we wouldn't be here!

Another thought - phages in the ocean outnumber the bacteria (including the cyanobacteria that excrete the oxygen) up 100 to 1. If they're all lytic phages and they're always active, then they regulate the bacterial numbers, thereby ensuring that oxygen production is also highly regulated. Which is a good thing, as oxygen is actually higly toxic in high doses.

My god, we're nerds.

Shut up! Shut up! You're making my brain bleed! Actually, it's been a slow mind day already. I met someone today. The conversation started as follows:

me: Hi, how are you?
her: Yeah, good.
me: How are y... I don't believe I just asked you the same question twice in a row.

Heh. Welcome to Brain Bleed. Population - 3. Now. Mwah hah hah.

What time are you getting to Hell Werribee?

I thought Warrigal was hell? Ah well. Um, I can't get there by 7, but I figure before 8.
