So, "Comfortably Numb" comes on the radio in the lab. You know, the Pink Floyd version. Not that mangled version that the Scissor Shitheads recorded.

First, my supervisor, who professes to be a Floyd fan, walks past and says, "Hmm, sounds vaguely Pink Floyd."

Well, DUH.

Then, while I'm arguing with him that it's "Comfortably Numb", off The Wall, one of the other PhDs pipes up indignantly, "but this isn't "Comfortably Numb. It sounds nothing like it!!"

It turns out that the only version she's heard is by the Scissor "Fuck-I-Hate-You-You-Bunch-Of-Prepubescent-Wankers" Sisters. I don't think she even knew that Pink Floyd did it first.

I ask you, what is the world coming to???

If I ever meet the Scissor Sisters I'll tear their throats out.

Nearly as bad as that version of Another Brick in the Wall that came out a few years back...

You know, once you get past the badness of it and the fact that it doesn't sound anything like Pink Floyd, it's a quite a good cover of it. In fact, the entire album's good. YOu just have to get used to it.

No, it's not quite a good cover of it. I would prefer to hear kittens being tortured than ever hear that song again.

No, the entire album is not good. I've heard it. In my humble opinion (which is, of course, just that), the entire album blows and should be used as punishment in maximum security prisons for rioting inmates.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree ;)

BTW, I think I have your Coal Chamber CD. Which I also didn't like, but that's another story.

....that's where it went? Huh. I thought I hadn't seen it for a while. (as for the crapness? It was the ...second CD I ever bought, so it's allowed to be crap. The first one was the Aqua Barbie Girl single.)

*grins* There'd be murder if we got stuck in a car for a long time, wouldn't there?

Umm, sorry Lisa but I must vehemently disagree. There is absolutely nothing good about that version of that song, not only because it is a cover. Extrapolating from that song I fail to see how that band could possibly produce anything of value. But that's just my (overly stated and opinionated) opinion.

*grins* It's fine. I actually like that style of music, so I liked the cover and the rest of their work. Most people don't. ;)

Scary people. How have they managed to survive this long? I've never heard the cover, so I can't really judge that, but I don't think I'll actively seek it out now...

I haven't heard their cover of comfortably numb, and i reserve the right to hate it or love it on whim, but I do like their cover of Take Me Out. They've taken a great song, and managed to make it their own. While I prefer the original, their version's still good.

Yeah, that's how Evan used to feel about that cover of Blue Monday by Orgy (was it Orgy or something like that?). People would walk past while he was listening to the New Order version and say, "Hey, a cover of that Orgy song," and he would spaz out.

Actually, I can see how that would be a consistent problem for New Order fans... that band gets covered a goodly deal... although now that I've said that I can only think of Blue Monday and Bizarre Love Triangle...
