Am I the only one who couldn't give a toss about the soccer? I honestly couldn't give a crap if we're in the World Cup or that it's been 3 lifetimes since a bunch of Aussies could kick a black-and-white ball into a net to save themselves. Is this sedition?

Anyway, I'm stuck in the lab. While everyone else gets pissed. Bah.

Addendum

OK, I'm listening to Camille O'Sullivan rework Nick Cave's Little Water Song. All I can say is, Nick Cave is one disturbed man. I mean, really really disturbed.

I've never heard Little Water Song - apparently it was released on an album called Punishing Kiss by a guy called Ute Lemper in 2000, so there you go. It didn't make the B-Sides & Rarities compilation.

I have the Ute Lemper album - she is a woman, and Punishing Kiss is a collection of her interpretations of songs by people like Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, and of course, Nick Cave. I don't like her voice, but the song is certainly very good, and, as Shayne says, very very disturbed.

I'm happy about the soccer but my family are sport mad. It's my breeding. They went crazy at my place last night. Anyone would think we won the world cup. I don't understand people not giving a crap though. At least you're not jumping on the bandwagon.

Sorry, I *do* understand people not giving a crap.

I don't care about the soccer, but it did give me a nice big chunk of friends list to skip over read.

Nick Cave is a very disturbed man. A very cool, very disturbed man.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm stuck doing the Latin that I've been neglecting. So neither of us get to do anything fun.
In other news, my eye has completely stopped hemorrhaging and is almost totally back to normal.

I actually did end up at the Retreat. I cracked the shits at my Big Experiment of Doom. Anyway, glad your eye is kind of ok. Oh, and James used shot glasses as well last night, but he actually put contact lens solution in them....

I honestly couldn't care about it - it's a boring game because there aren't enough goals scored. :)

That is a ridiculous comment. Surely you are able to appreciate something other than scoring in other sports - if not, then you obviously can only watch basketball (and even that has some form of defensive play). Why do people appreciate great bowlers like Glenn McGrath (he doesn't score very often does he), or people like Gavin Wanganeen - a brilliant back-pocket player who would not kick 5 goals most seasons. The game is not all about scoring, and one of the reasons soccer is such a great sport is because (like cricket, and, seemingly, American Football) it greatly rewards some sort of knowledge of the game. There is no reason to value a mazy Harry Kewell run, a calm and athletic take from Fabien Carini, or a well-timed tackle by Lucas Neill any less just because there isn't a goal at the end of it - just like you can appreciate a Michael Voss bump, the vision of James Hird, or a Leo Barry mark, even if there is no goal at the end of it.

Yeah, I agree. The fact that there aren't enough goals scored doesn't worry me. I think it's the ridiculous level of histrionics of the game that annoys me. That and soccer fans are generally batshit.

Yeah, I'll cop that, I am a soccer fan, and I am batshit - not in the way I suspect you are imagining though.

For once, I agreed with Leigh Matthews...

To paraphrase somewhat, he said "Didn't really do that much for me, although I'm sure it would if you liked that sort of thing. But honestly, why is everyone so excited over qualifying for a competition?"

Well, I suppose if it hasn't happened for 30 years you'd be pretty bloddy happy. Still...
